Supreme Court on Monday sought a report from a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) on the authenticity of some audio recordings that point to the alleged role of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in the violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in the state.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna said it would first like to peruse the FSL report before proceeding on a plea filed by the Kuki organisation for Human Rights Trust.
Adjourning the case to March 24, the bench summoned the FSL report in a sealed cover.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, advocate Prashant Bhushan argued that transcripts of the audio recordings have been placed on record before the top court. He alleged that the chief minister allowed arms to be looted by one group, before the Manipur riots took place.
On the other hand, solicitor general (SG) Tushar Mehta questioned the petitioner organisation's motive behind filing the plea. Mehta contended that the petitioner has «ideological inclinations. Separatists sorts». He added the petitioner's intention was merely to «keep the pot boiling».
