Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) will leverage India as a production hub, also for electric vehicles, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President said, adding the company expects demand for electric cars to grow in the country bucking global trends and will introduce multiple products including compact affordable ones to strengthen its presence in the segment.

Suzuki who is in the country to attend the second edition of the Bharat Mobility Show said, while competition has intensified in India which has grown to become the third largest automobile market in the world over the last couple of years, Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki has lined up several products in the fast-growing SUV segment to regain lost market share. The company will also continue to cater to customers in the small car segment, where it expects demand to pick up as two-wheeler owners start upgrading to four-wheeled vehicles.
Suzuki said the two EVs — e Vitara and e Access — the company has scheduled for launch in India are “global models”. “India will be a production hub for electric vehicles. For Suzuki, scale in India is our strength. We will fully leverage this advantage to supply vehicles to Europe, Japan, Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Asian countries”, Suzuki said. Maruti Suzuki is also working on exporting hybrid vehicles out of the country.
