K Armstrong's murder, police on Sunday confirmed that Thiruvengadam, an accused, was killed in a police encounter in Madhavaram area near Chennai, ANI reported.
«The encounter took place today and investigation is underway,» said Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai North, Narendra Nair.
Armstrong, 52, was the chief of Tamil Nadu unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)and was killed by a group of assailants on earlier this month.
About eight suspects were secured in connection with the murder of the BSP state president and 10 teams have been formed to crack the case, Asra Garg, Additional Commissioner (North) had informed.
CM MK Stalin had also expressed grief over the incident and paid condolences to the slain leader's family.
Taking to 'X', the Chief Minister wrote, «Bahujan Samaj Party State President Mr. Armstrong's assassination is shocking and deeply saddening. The police arrested those involved in the murder overnight.»
«I would like to convey my deepest condolences to all of Armstrong's party members, family, relatives, and friends who are bereaved, and I have ordered the police officers to conduct the case expeditiously and bring the culprits to justice as per the law,» he added.
