Tamil Nadu government has cautioned job seekers regarding the risks associated with accepting deceptive job offers from overseas, particularly from countries in Southeast Asia like Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.
The Non-Resident Tamils’ Welfare Department has emphasized the importance of vigilance among the state's residents, urging them not to fall prey to fraudulent schemes promising lucrative employment opportunities abroad.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, the government has underscored its commitment to taking legal action against any individuals or agencies within Tamil Nadu found to be complicit in the illicit practice of facilitating unauthorized employment abroad without proper registration with the Union government.
A recent statement from the department revealed alarming instances where Tamilians were lured to Southeast Asian nations on tourist visas under false pretenses of securing jobs in the Information Technology (IT) sector, only to find themselves coerced into engaging in illicit online activities.
According to reports, individuals who resist these exploitative conditions are subjected to various forms of abuse, including electric shocks and physical violence.
In response to these concerning developments, the Non-Resident Tamils’ Welfare Department has intervened to rescue more than 80 victims who have fallen victim to these fraudulent job offers in Southeast Asian countries.
