Taylor Swift has now outsold the greatest British boyband of all time, the Beatles! The ‘Lover’ star’s latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ outsold the top ten albums and grabbed the numero uno place on British musical charts on Friday.
‘Poets’ enjoyed the biggest opening week for an album in the UK for seven years. This distinction ties the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ hitmaker with Madonna as a female artiste with the most UK No. 1 albums in Official Albums Chart history.
«No other artist has notched up 12 no. 1 albums in such a short space of time. Taylor Swift has done it in 11 years and 6 months,» the Official Charts Company told Reuters. «This surpasses The Beatles, who managed the feat in 14 years and 1 month,” he said. The album reportedly sold 220,000 units in its first three days and 270,000 units in its first week.
However, this is far from the first time Taylor occupied the number one position on the UK charts. Her single from the collaboration ‘Fortnight’ with Post Malone also topped the chart.
Swift’s labour of love is also topping charts in Australia as well as her home turf, the USA. Three streaming giants — Spotify and Amazon Music revealed that ‘Poets’ gained the maximum number of streams in just a day. It became 2024's most-streamed album on Spotify in a single day in less than 12 hours after its release.
