Kamareddy assembly constituency, located around 120 kms away from Hyderabad, has become the hotspot of this election in Telangana, as it is witnessing a triangle battle among BRS supremo and chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, his challenger A Revanth Reddy who is the state Congress president, and BJP's local heavyweight K Venkata Ramana Reddy.
The chief minister had surprised many when he chose Kamareddy as his second seat in addition to his sitting Gajwal seat in the Siddipet district. A new dimension was added when sitting MP Revanth Reddy, fashioning himself as Congress' chief ministerial counter to Rao, too entered the fray — in addition to Kodangal in the Vikarabad district — thus making the Kamareddy contest a CM vs a wannabe CM.
Adding to the spice here is BJP candidate Reddy, who is known for having made generous charity works, stayed rooted here for the past five years and now projects himself as a potential giant killer.
As the campaign peaks, the general impression among the locals is that of a close triangle contest. And given the high stakes involved, the seat is witnessing a campaign blitzkrieg, with CM Rao and PCC head Reddy taking time off from their state-wide tours to do rounds of campaign here.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday are slated to address election rallies in Kamareddy.
In the 2018 election, the BRS won the seat with 42.02% votes and the Congress coming in a close second with 39.20%. The BJP got 9.52% votes.
