Approximately 45 million residents in the southern US are under winter storm alerts. The storm has triggered the first-ever blizzard warnings in Beaumont, Texas, and in the Louisiana cities of Lake Charles and Lafayette. Winds reaching 35 mph and reduced visibility to a quarter-mile have been reported in these areas.
In southern California, more than 12 million people are under red flag warnings. About 3 million residents face a «particularly dangerous situation» due to high winds and dry conditions, exacerbating wildfire risks.
On Monday, several cities reported record-low temperatures, including Colorado Springs at -14°F and Rawlins, Wyoming, at -23°F. Temperatures dropped to 1°F in Borger, Texas, tying a previous record low. Wind chills have made temperatures feel even colder, with Fargo, North Dakota, experiencing -40°F and Houston, Texas, feeling like 18°F.
Forecasts indicate that Kansas City, Missouri, and Salina, Kansas, may see rare record-low temperatures. By Wednesday morning, wind chills in New York City and Washington D.C. are expected to drop to near zero, with below-zero chills in Boston.
