The Idol Season 1, the controversial show on HBO starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel «The Weeknd» Tesfaye, is getting over soon. Viewers expected a few more episodes of the show, but The Idol 1 will air its season finale on Sunday, July 2, 2023. The preview for The Idol finale, titled Jocelyn Forever, is out now. Season 1 of The Idol will only have five episodes instead of six, as was previously reported.
Why was The Idol Season 1 cut short? There is no announcement as to why The Idol was cut to five episodes by HBO. People are speculating it may be because of the controversy around the show’s graphic scenes and toxicity. However, TVLine quotes a source as saying that the reason is that the series only needed five episodes to tell its story of the first season. After director Sam Levinson took over from Amy Seimetz, he reshot a lot of scenes and made the series about the toxic love story between Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) and Tedros (Abel Tesfaye).
What is The Idol about? The Idol tells the story of Jocelyn, whose singing career is on the rise but she has a nervous breakdown during a tour. She is supposedly ‘saved’ by a new-age cult leader and nightclub owner, Tedros. The couple share a toxic relationship. Although The Idol got a five-minute-standing ovation at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, critics and audiences didn’t give positive ratings to the show. As a result, the viewership on HBO and Max has also been affected.
Where and when can we watch The Idol Season 1 finale?Watch The Idol Season 1 finale Episode 5 on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 9 pm ET on HBO, or stream it on Max.
