Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu will release on May 22, 2026. This film is set to be the next Star Wars movie in theaters, preceding other upcoming projects. It will be the first Star Wars film to release in May since Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018. The film will take place in the New Republic era, around 10-11 ABY, roughly 22 years before the events of The Force Awakens.
Jon Favreau, who created The Mandalorian series, will direct the film. Dave Filoni, who worked closely with Favreau on the series, is also involved in this project.
Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Mando. Grogu and Zeb are confirmed to be part of the supporting cast, though details on other characters are still under wraps. Filming began in summer 2024, and Jon Favreau’s involvement has sparked interest despite mixed reactions to the idea of a Mandalorian movie.

Though no full trailer is available yet, some footage was shown at D23 2024. The clip featured Grogu in his pod, Mando in full armor and some dialog where Mando refers to Grogu as his apprentice. The footage also included scenes of Zeb and Grogu in a tunnel, a GNK power droid, and a possible glimpse of the ice planet Hoth.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will have a theatrical release before becoming available on Disney+.
