With Savile's iconic cropped hairstyle, Coogan is seated in a chair, holding a cigar, fully immersed in character. Principal photography for «The Reckoning» commenced in November 2021 in Manchester. Coogan, aged 55, expressed that his decision to undertake the role of portraying the former Top of the Pops host, who was also involved in pedophilic activities, was not one made without careful consideration.
In the wake of Savile's passing in 2011, numerous survivors came forward to share harrowing stories of abuse inflicted by him. He allegedly exploited his positions at the BBC and in various institutions like hospitals, prisons, and charities to mask his wrongdoing. BBC programs such as «Jim'll Fix It» and «Top of the Pops» facilitated Savile's close interaction with children over the course of many years.
Subsequently, it emerged that high-ranking figures within the corporation were aware of allegations against him but chose not to take action.
