Trinamool Congress on Friday bashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the Lok Sabha, saying that he had spent an «agonizing two hours extolling the virtues of his government.» The West Bengal based party, in a tweet, said that while the speech touched on how the BJP was a boon for the Indian economy, it omitted facts deliberately. In the tweet, the Trinamool Congress said, "India's account deficit hit a record high of $36.4 billion in the July-September 2022 quarter." Additionally, they pointed to the fact that the unemployment rate rose to a 16-month high of 8.3% in December, 2022, while the Indian rupee ended 2022 as the worst-performing Asian currency.
«The 3.5% decline the Sensex in December, 2022 was the worst year-end drop since 2011,» the tweet also said. Prime Minister Modi's address to the Lok Sabha came in response to the Opposition launching a no-confidence motion against him and his government.
