holiday season, many companies are encouraging their employees to take time off and be with their family and friends. The small fraction of staffers who might be working at these firms during this time will get compensatory leave.
As 2024 has a number of holidays close to the weekend, many companies are also clubbing these to give extra time off to their employees. For now, most companies have given off to their staffers in the last week of 2023.
Professional services firm Deloitte has an annual companywide downtime in the last week of the year. «The messaging comes straight from the leadership and team leaders are directly urged to adhere to this downtime so that there is no hesitation whatsoever to enjoy it wholeheartedly,» said chief people and experience officer Deepti Sagar.
Three days out of this block are contributed by Deloitte itself, so that it doesn't hurt the annual leave balance of employees and they can continue to avail of breaks when needed.
Those employees who are required to work during this time get equivalent downtime in January, she said.
Deloitte has separate happiness time offs and well-being leaves, on top of the annual leave entitlement.
Rival KPMG observes a 'dial-down leave' from December 25 to January 1, allowing employees to take a break from work.
But those with client commitments continue to work.
