Trinamool Congress in West Bengal will move a resolution in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly condemning the incidents in Manipur since the last few months. “We will bring a resolution in the state assembly on the Manipur issue in the current session. Along with the entire country, we are deeply anguished by the condition of the women in Manipur.
Women and children from the tribal community are being tortured and they are taking refuge in camps. They are citizens of India and those who are torturing them are also citizens of our country. The situation is very unfortunate,” state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay said.
Following a meeting of the Business Advisory (BA) Committee of the assembly, the date of the resolution will be decided, the people in the know said. The Trinamool government also criticized the role of the central government for its inaction over the Manipur issue. “The role of the central government is unfortunate.
The Prime Minister is vocal and proactive about India when abroad. But he spoke only 2-2.5 minutes for an Indian state of Manipur, where women are raped, tortured and forced to walk after stripped. Why the PM is not proactive about the issue is really worrying, when his double-engine government is in place,” Chattopadhyay said.
«We are saddened by the incidents in Manipur and the condition of women and children. So, we are bringing the resolution in the monsoon session and the date will be decided on Wednesday during the BA committee meeting. India is a 4000 year-old civilization and this is shocking that such barbaric torture is happening here,” he said.
