police check on the National Highway at Gadwal led to the interception of a truck carrying an astonishing Rs 750 crore in cash. As per a TOI report, the incident took place on Tuesday night when the truck was stopped by police on election duty.
The location of the interception raised suspicions as the Gadwal highway is known to be a popular route for smugglers.
However, after hours of speculation and suspense, it was revealed that the cash load belonged to the Union Bank of India and was being transported from Kerala to Hyderabad. Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer, Vikas Raj, confirmed that the truck was released for its onward journey after verification from bank authorities.
«The truck with Rs 750 crore in cash caught everyone's attention for a while, but it turned out to be a routine money transfer.
Once the verification process was completed, the police allowed the truck to continue its journey,» said Vikas Raj.
He further explained that due to increased vigilance by law enforcement agencies, every vehicle entering the state is being thoroughly inspected. The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajeev Kumar, had previously instructed state election authorities to crack down on smuggling activities through Mahbugnagar to Hyderabad from Goa and other areas.
With the Election Commission taking a tough stance, police on election duty are extra cautious.
In this case, suspecting possible foul play, the truck was stopped on the highway. Sanjay Kumar Jain, Telangana police's nodal officer for the EC, stated, «The cash-laden truck encountered a roadblock, leading to a call for assistance from Gadwal police.
