Pete Hegseth, Defence Secretary: Ahead of his return to the White House on 20 January 2025, the president-elect has named Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and military veteran, as his pick for defence secretary. Hegseth, 44, is a military veteran who has expressed disdain for the «woke» policies of Pentagon leaders, including its top military officer, reports Reuters.
As secretary of defense, Hegseth could make good on Trump's campaign promise to rid the US military of generals whom he accuses of pursuing progressive policies on diversity in the ranks that conservatives have railed against.
