Two people were killed in a shooting at OneLife Fitness, a gym and health club in southwest Alexandria, Virginia, according to police, news agency AP reported.
The Alexandria Police Department reported that officers responded to the shooting at approximately 4 pm on Saturday. The incident initially left two individuals, including the alleged shooter, with life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to the hospital.
Police confirmed that both the male victim and the accused shooter had succumbed to their injuries on Saturday night. OneLife Fitness clarified that neither individual was an employee of the gym.
At the time of the shooting, about 60 patrons were inside the facility and quickly evacuated through the front and back exits, as reported by local news outlets.
In a statement, OneLife Fitness expressed its condolences: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred on Saturday at our Alexandria location. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the people involved.”
The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death for both men. The Alexandria Police Department has not yet commented on the motive behind the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
