During the 2024 China Supermarket Week last month, the company Pang Dong Lai, which is a retail chain business located in China's Henan province saw a rather unusual announcement by their founder and chairman Yu Donglai. He announced publicly that the employees at the chain will be entitled to additional leaves and perks at times when employees are not at their mental or emotional best.

Donglai advocated on behalf of the employees saying if they are not happy, they needn't come to work and take an 'unhappy leave', according to a South China Morning Post report.
This announcement comes during the China Supermarket Week which is a six-day long conference aimed at promoting China's supermarket's growth and development keeping in mind all the latest challenges across the past years.
According to the boss of Pang Dong Lai, employees must determine their own ways of rest and the company should encourage this practice as it would not only boost employee morale but also increase productivity, apart from achieving a significant work-life balance.
Moreover, the chairman has also stated that denying these leaves by the management will be considered a violation. Employees can take these leaves at their own discretion, says South China Morning Post.
