Event organisers played down the event, calling it a «robotic failure.» They assured the public that the machine had passed all safety checks and insisted that additional measures would be put in place to prevent future mishaps, as reported by Metro.
What Went Wrong?
The robot, developed by Unitree Robotics, is described as a «humanoid agent AI avatar.» Reports suggest that a software glitch caused its erratic behaviour, leading to its sudden charge towards the crowd. While no injuries were reported, the incident has reignited fears about AI unpredictability and safety in real-world environments.
Not an Isolated Incident
This is far from the first time an AI-driven machine has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. In a disturbing case at Tesla’s Texas factory, an automated robot reportedly pinned down an engineer, leaving deep wounds on their back and arm. A separate report from South Korea detailed an AI-controlled robot allegedly «taking its own life» due to overwork.
