Virat Kohli is set to return as the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) starting from the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, TOI reported on Wednesday, ahead of retention deadline.
Kohli has had discussions with the RCB management and will step into the leadership role again due to the vacant spot in the team, the report said.
Faf du Plessis, who is 40, led RCB from 2022 to 2024, but due to his age, Kohli will take over the leadership for the upcoming edition.
RCB has never won an IPL title.
With the mega auction approaching, the team has decided on its captain and now focuses on filling key positions. Kohli previously led RCB from 2013 to 2021, bringing the team to the playoffs four times and reaching the final in 2016, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
