The Kashmir Files’, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has announced a sequel. Titled ‘The Kashmir Files Unreported’, the sequel will be a web story and will premiere on the OTT platform ZEE5. Unlike the predecessor, which was a feature film, this will be a documentary that focuses on real-life stories of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave the valley after it became a hub of religious extremism.
Taking to Twitter, the director wrote, “A lot of Genocide Deniers, terror supporters & enemies of Bharat questioned The Kashmir Files. Now bringing to you the VULGAR truth of the Kashmir Genocide of Hindus which only a devil can question. Coming soon #KashmirUNREPORTED.
Be ready to cry.” The post gained 164K views and 2,857 likes. Actress Meera Chopra retweeted the video and wrote, “Not sure if ill be able to watch so much pain and hurt and the fact these people are still waiting to get justice! “ Another commented, “Great … need to keep hammering the head of genocide deniers!” Another wrote that this would be an eye-opening, yet painful watch. Releasing on 11 March 2022, ‘The Kashmir Files’ became one of the biggest hits that year, earning more than Rs 350 crore at the box-office.
It had an ensemble cast comprising veterans such as Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, etc. The movie became a bona fide blockbuster, despite facing a huge flak from critics for perpetuating Islamophobia, stirring communal tensions, and also painting the Kashmiri Muslim community in a poor light. The film became the third highest grossing movie of 2022.
