Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie was vandalized by a group of environmental activists in Spain. The activist group known as Futuro Vegetal, based in Spain, took action by spraying paint on the massive yacht named Kaos as it attempted to depart from the port in Ibiza, according to reports. The group, which advocates for civil disobedience as a means to address the ongoing climate crisis, chose to target the yacht due to its owner's status as one of the wealthiest women in the world, as per reports.
Nancy Walton Laurie is the owner of the vessel. She is the daughter of Bud Walton. Bud Walton co-founded the renowned retail company Walmart alongside his brother Sam Walton in 1962.
Laurie inherited a significant stake in the company from her father following his passing in 1995, instantly elevating her to billionaire status. According to Forbes, her current net worth is estimated to be around $8.7 billion, positioning her as the 254th wealthiest individual globally. In a video shared by the activist group on Twitter, several members can be seen employing fire extinguishers to spray red and black paint on the stern of the boat.
The crew members aboard the Kaos promptly reacted by attempting to remove the paint with hoses as the vessel swiftly departed from the docks. The Kaos is a 361-foot superyacht that Laurie acquired in 2017. The Kaos was originally constructed for former emir of Qatar Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.
The yacht was put up for sale following the monarch's demise in 2016. According to the online yacht database YachtBible, the ship features cabin space capable of accommodating 31 guests and 45 crew members. The estimated annual operational expenses of the vessel range from $30 to $40 million.
