Jagdambika Pal, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (amendment) Bill, 2024, will visit Hubballi, Vijayapura and Belagavi on Thursday and interact with affected farmers and their delegations. More than 50 farmer organizations have said they want to meet him and give their representations, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya (BJP), who is also a JPC member, told ET.

The BJP leader said around 50,000 acres of land had been affected by the Waqf notices. Union Consumer Affairs & MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi and MoS (MSME & Labour) Shobha Karandlaje will be present during the interactions by the JPC chairman.
The government said they will withdraw notices issued to farmers and reverse the mutation entries, but he was not sure if it had been done, the BJP MP said.
Karandlaje and BJP MPs Ramesh Jigajinagi and Narayanaswamy Bandage (RS) and BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil (Yatnal) have been sitting on dharna in Vijayapura demanding withdrawal of notices issued to farmers. Karandlaje, Surya and other BJP leaders have met sections of agitated farmers in Vijayapura district after they received notices with the Waqf Board claiming their farmlands as its own.
