The demonstration came two days before Trump was set to take the oath of office for a second term. Participants voiced their concerns over a range of issues they believe are under threat, such as abortion access, climate change, gun violence prevention, and immigrant rights.
Protesters held a variety of signs, including those reading «My body, my choice» and «Save America,» many donning pink pussy hats, a symbol of the resistance to Trump’s first term. The marchers gathered in different parks across Washington, before proceeding towards the Lincoln Memorial for a rally, where they expressed their frustrations with the incoming administration.
«These laws endanger our lives. Women are dying,» said demonstrator Aisha Becker-Burrowes, her voice barely audible over chants of «My body, my choice.»
Susan Dutwells, a 60-year-old protester who travelled from Florida with her daughter, said, «I’m scared and angry about Trump’s return to office. So many people are voting against their own interests.
