Canada’s population reached 40 million people earlier this year and it continues to grow.
Immigrants are playing a key role in the country’s economy as Canada looks to offset labour shortages, and to create a tax base to support services such as healthcare amid a declining workforce.
This week on Down to Business, Rupa Banerjee, Canada Research Chair and associate professor of human resource management at Toronto Metropolitan University, discusses how Canada’s immigration policies are evolving.
As immigration levels have grown, Banerjee said that government agencies, universities, and employers will need to work harder to ensure that immigrants successfully integrate with the labour force. As always the interview is edited for clarity and brevity.
