US President- elect Donald Trump has recently announced about the creation of a new initiative known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) which will be led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. According to CNN, the ultimate goal of DOGE is to streamline federal operations and cut significant government spending by at least $2 trillion which is a target that various budget experts have deemed unrealistic.
At the same time Elon Musk has eventually acknowledged that achieving these savings might cause ‘temporary hardship’ but insisted that it will lead to a heavy long-term prosperity, reported CNN. On the other hand, while Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will provide recommendations to the White House, they actually lack direct authority to make spending cuts or regulatory changes.

CNN noted that the main focus of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will include identifying wasteful expenditures and potentially eliminating several federal agencies which includes the Department of Education and the FBI. However, several experts have severely warn that cutting $2 trillion would eventually require significant reductions across all programs while it could severely impact essential services like Social Security and Medicare.
