WhatsApp rolls out new text formatting tools for Android and iOS beta users; how to use
WhatsApp's plan to allow users to customise app theme colours, adding to the slew of enhancements aimed at improving user experience.
The text formatting tools introduced in this beta update offer Android users an extended range of options to elevate their messaging game. Among the new additions are code blocks, quote blocks, numbered lists, and bulleted lists. These enhancements complement the existing bold, italic, and strikethrough formatting choices.
How It Works
To use these new features, users can utilise specific formatting syntaxes or shortcuts. For instance:
- Code Block: Inserting "`" before and after a sentence transforms the text into a code block.
- Quote Block: Starting and ending a message with the ">" symbol creates a quote block.
- Ordered Lists: To craft a bulleted list, use either "-" or "*" before a sentence, while numbering initiates a numbered list.
The anticipation for these text formatting tools has been building since August 2023, with reports suggesting testing on both WhatsApp web and mobile app versions. Notably, an official WhatsApp support page already outlines these formatting options, confirming the imminent arrival of these features.
Testing For Android And iOS Users
WhatsApp has been continuously testing text formatting options for both Android and iOS users enrolled in the beta program. Users can now employ ">" to highlight portions of their messages and use "-" or "*" to create bulleted lists. Numbered lists are effortlessly generated by adding a number before the message.
These formatting options, currently available in Android version 2.24.2.9 and iOS version 23.21.1.75 for beta users, are expected to roll out on the stable channel in the coming weeks.
