Tim Cook, now the CEO of Apple and a member of its board of directors, did not have an easy path to the top. After graduating from Auburn University, Cook’s first job was at IBM, where he relocated with everything he owned packed into his car. Early in his career, he couldn’t afford to furnish his apartment. For a while, Cook slept on the floor, only buying a bed when he had saved enough money.
«I was sleeping on the floor for a while before I could afford to actually buy a bed,» Tim Cook told Wall Street Journal, adding, «My first job was delivering papers, and I was about 12 years old.»
Cook’s career trajectory steadily climbed from those humble beginnings. Before becoming Apple’s CEO in August 2011, he served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for worldwide operations, including supply chain management and global sales activities. He also led Apple’s service and support networks across markets, ensuring the company remained agile in an evolving industry.

Before joining Apple, Cook held significant roles at other major companies. He served as Vice President of Corporate Materials for Compaq, where he oversaw procurement and inventory management for the company’s product line. Cook also spent time as Chief Operating Officer of the Reseller Division at Intelligent Electronics, gaining deep expertise in operations and logistics.
