Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson and the 15th Doctor’s new companion was left by her mother when she was a baby, on Christmas Eve outside a Church. Later, she was adopted by Carla Sunday played by Angela Wynter. This led to her search to find the truth about her life and her family history. Currently, Ruby, who is 19 years old, had signed up for David McCall’s help to get interviewed for a TV show that she was presenting. There she helped in the reunion of relatives, who got separated.
The segment is a reference to an original show where McCall was the host of Long Lost Family, the documentary series on ITV. She has been a presenter on the show since the year 2011, with Nicky Campbell, the Scottish broadcaster.
Sadly, McCall along with her team members were not able to find any of the relatives of Ruby, however, that did not end their association.
Since the Goblin villains exposed Ruby to an enormous amount of adversity, McCall finds herself bound to a wheelchair and is extremely injured, likely to be killed by a Christmas tree. This was the scenario until the Doctor made her way back in time to catch the falling Christmas free and safeguard her life.
