Foxx disclosed that the medical scare began while he was filming the Netflix movie Back in Action in Atlanta. «On April 11, I had a bad headache and asked my boy for an aspirin,» Foxx recounted. Before he could take the medicine, he blacked out. «I don’t remember 20 days,» he said, becoming emotional as he recalled the experience.
Initially, Foxx’s friends sought help from a local doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, sensed something more severe. «She knew that wasn’t her brother,» Foxx shared. Trusting her instincts, she drove him to Piedmont Hospital, where doctors immediately recognized the gravity of his condition.
At Piedmont Hospital, Foxx was diagnosed with a brain bleed that had caused a stroke. The situation was dire, and doctors informed Dixon that surgery was the only option to save his life. «If we don’t operate now, we’re going to lose him,» they told her. Dixon spent the surgery in prayer, a moment Foxx described as one of unwavering love and hope.
Despite the severity of the situation, Foxx found humor in his recollection, joking about his unconscious experience. «I saw the tunnel. It was oddly peaceful,» he said, adding with a laugh, «It was hot in that tunnel—was I going the wrong way?»
