Willem Dafoe opened up about his role in the much-anticipated sequel, "Beetlejuice 2." Set to follow up the 1988 classic, this movie promises a fresh take on the afterlife and familiar characters.
Dafoe, known for his diverse roles, shed light on his character, a police officer navigating the afterworld. He shared, “I haven’t seen any footage yet, but it was fun to do.
I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person. And in life I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side.”
Fans eager for its release might face a delay, with reports suggesting a possible shift to 2025 due to ongoing industry strikes disrupting schedules, including the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike.
The returning cast is anticipated to revive the essence of the original film.
Michael Keaton reprises his role as Beetlejuice, joined by Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. Additionally, newcomers like Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux add fresh energy to the ensemble.
While plot specifics remain shrouded, speculation surrounds Lydia's daughter (played by Ortega), possibly carrying the torch of rebellion.
Unlike the once-considered “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian,” this sequel explores different locations, spanning the United Kingdom, Vermont, and Massachusetts.
Director Tim Burton, despite initial doubts, has committed to steering the sequel, reuniting with composer Danny Elfman. Filming, initially set in the UK, encountered setbacks due to industry strikes but is set to resume, targeting a release date of September 6, 2024, although uncertainties loom amid the ongoing labor disputes.
