Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a prevalent and contagious virus responsible for many childhood respiratory illnesses. Most children experience an RSV infection by the age of two, typically presenting with cold-like symptoms and mild fever.
However, the virus can lead to bronchiolitis, which, while often mild, can occasionally result in serious breathing difficulties requiring hospital treatment. Recently, UKHSA reported an increase in hospital admissions for severe chest infections among infants in the week prior to October 10.
