Wolf Moon crosses paths with Mars. This rare occurrence offers a unique celestial experience to astronomy enthusiasts.
The first full moon of 2025, known as the Wolf Moon, will reach its peak on Monday, January 13, at 5:26 p.m. EST. Although officially full then, the best viewing opportunity arises on Tuesday evening, January 14, when it rises in the eastern sky at dusk. The Wolf Moon will appear in the Cancer constellation, near the brightly glowing Mars. Monday’s moonrise, occurring close to sunset, may not provide optimal visibility due to the brightness of the sky.

On the night between January 13 and January 14, a rare lunar occultation will occur. According to In The Sky, the Wolf Moon will block Mars from 8:44 p.m. EST to 12:52 a.m. EST. The exact duration depends on the viewer's location. The event will be visible to the naked eye, though binoculars or beginner telescopes will enhance the experience.
