WWE Wrestlemania 40 held in Philadelphia broke many earlier records and became the most successful live event in the company's history. Cody Rhodes won the Undisputed Universal Championship beating Roman Reigns and The Rock's in-ring return. According to 'Variety', the sporting event took place two nights at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. With 145,298 in attendance across both nights this year, it broke the record of attendance of Wrestlemania 39. It was 78 percent more compared to last year. Similarly, the sale of merchandise was up by 20% over last year.
According to the company, WWE World became the highest-grossing and most-attended fan event in its history. During the program, broadcaster Michael Cole said that the road to WrestleMania kick-started 17 consecutive sellouts for WWE’s televised events. Monday’s show drew the largest gate in its history and broke the record of last week’s show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
"Friday Night SmackDown" at the Wells Fargo Center also drew the largest gate in the show’s history. This is the place from where the April 5 episode of 'SmackDown' began. Similarly, the April 8 episode of 'Monday Night Raw' drew the largest gate in 'Raw' history. WWE also put on the NXT live event 'Stand and Deliver' on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center, which drew a record-breaking crowd of 16,545, the most ever for an NXT event.
