income tax return (ITR) within 30 days of filing it, or all the time and resources you invested in filing it will be wasted. Verification of the ITR is the last step of the tax return filing process and is a mandatory requirement for processing of the filed ITR. The filed ITR will not even be considered for processing by the tax department unless you verify it using the prescribed methods.
«If you do not verify in time, your return is treated as not filed and it will attract all the consequences of not filing ITR under the Income Tax Act, 1961,» said the tax department on its website.
Needless to say, if your filed ITR is not processed, you will not get income tax refund (if any) and it will be assumed that you have not filed your ITR. The deadline to file ITR for those not liable for an income tax audit is July 31, 2024, for FY 2023-24 (AY 2024-25).
