ICC World Cup: From Aiden Markram to Heinrich Klaasen, here's fastest centuries
ICC World Cup: South African batter Heinrich Klaasen played a wonderful innings of 109 runs to set a massive target of 400 against defending champions England. Heinrich Klaasen slammed 12 fours and 4 sixes to completely destroy England's bowling and slam century on just 61 balls. But, he is not the first South African to smash a fast century in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Why Israel's approach to Gaza could backfire
war against the barbaric Hamas, while trying to reach out to moderate Palestinians. Biden, I know, tried really hard to get Israeli leaders to pause in their rage and think three steps ahead — not only about how to get into the Gaza Strip to take down Hamas but also about how to get out — and how to do it with the fewest civilian casualties possible. While the president expressed deep understanding of Israel's moral and strategic dilemma, he pleaded with Israeli military and political leaders to learn from America's rush to war after 9/11, which took our troops deep into the dead ends and dark alleys of unfamiliar cities and towns in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, from everything I have gleaned from senior U.S. officials, Biden failed to get Israel to hold back and think through all the implications of an invasion of Gaza for Israel and the United States. So let me put this in as stark and clear language as I can, because the hour is late: I believe that if Israel rushes headlong into Gaza now to destroy Hamas — and does so without expressing a clear commitment to seek a two-state solution with the Palestinian Authority and end Jewish settlements deep in the West Bank — it will be making a grave mistake that will be devastating for Israeli interests and American interests. It could trigger a global conflagration and explode the entire pro-American alliance structure that the United States has built in the region since Henry Kissinger engineered the end of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

ICC World Cup: From Mitchell Santner to Jasprit Bumrah, here are the top 10 wicket takers
ICC World Cup 2023: The current edition of the ICC World Cup is witnessing some fiery bowling from all teams. In particular, Team India's and New Zealand's bowling lineup has impressed a lot and one more team which has destroyed giant batting lineups with its bowling has been Afghanistan. Too much was said about the bowling lineups of Australia and Pakistan, but they are yet to display any major performances in bowling.

Netherlands cause another big World Cup upset, stun South Africa by 38 runs
Put in to bat in challenging conditions after the rain reduced the contest to 43 over a side, the Netherlands found themselves reeling at 140 for seven before their captain Scott Edwards staged a remarkable recovery with an unbeaten 78 off 69 balls to take his side to a fighting 245 for eight. With the pitch offering variable bounce and some turn, the Netherlands sniffed an opportunity against a formidable South African batting unit which crumbled under pressure to be all out for 207 in 42.5 overs, handing the Dutch their first World Cup win against a Test playing nation. Until Tuesday, the Netherlands had only beaten fellow associate nations Namibia and Scotland in their World Cup history, having made their debut back in 1996. The surprise outcome came 48 hours after Afghanistan shocked defending champions England in Delhi, adding to the unpredictability of the 10 team competition. The Netherlands, who qualified for the their first World Cup since 2011 by finishing second in the Qualifier earlier this year, have shown significant improvement over the years. The Dutch had humbled the Proteas in T20 World Cup 11 months ago and at the scenic Dharamsala on Tuesday, they recorded another famous win over them in a less unpredictable format. At the start of the tournament, Bas de Leede, one of the few full-time cricketers in the team, had expressed delight at cricket being shown live on TV back home after four years.

China attempts to 'mainstream' Taliban via Belt & Road Forum
China's Belt and Road Forum this week is likely to «mainstream» the group in the presence of more than 120 countries invited to the mega gathering. The Taliban leadership will attend a summit for the first time since storming to power in August 2021. The move is also an attempt to create a wedge with India and use the first-mover advantage with the Taliban, according to people in the know. Taliban officials and ministers have at times travelled to regional meetings, but the Belt and Road Forum is the first high-profile summit where Taliban has been invited officially, according to one of the people mentioned above.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman dedicates Afghanistan triumph to quake victims
Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman on Sunday dedicated his team's stunning Cricket World Cup victory over champions England to the victims of the earthquakes which have rocked his country. Mujeeb, 22, was man of the match for his three wickets and 28 runs as Afghanistan shocked England by 69 runs in New Delhi. Earlier Sunday, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake killed two people in western Afghanistan where tremors have claimed at least 1,000 lives this past week. «This is for the people back home who have been affected by the earthquake. As players and as a team, I wanted to dedicate my award to them,» said Mujeeb. He added: «It's a very proud moment to be here in the World Cup beating the last champions, it is a good moment for the whole nation and the team.

Afghanistan defeat champions England in seismic World Cup shock
Afghanistan pulled off one of the greatest World Cup shocks on Sunday when they defeated defending champions England by 69 runs in New Delhi. Chasing 285 to win, after opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had hit a blistering 80, England were bowled out for 215 despite Harry Brook's 66 with spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan claiming three wickets each. The stunning upset gave Afghanistan just their second World Cup win to add to a lone victory over Scotland at the 2015 tournament. They came into Sunday's clash having lost their opening two games in India and on a 14-match losing World Cup streak. After Gurbaz and the recalled Ikram Alikhil, with 58, had given them a decent target to defend, Afghanistan's bowlers went to work, striking at regular intervals. Jonny Bairstow (two) was lbw to Fazalhaq Farooqi in the second over before Joe Root was clean bowled by 22-year-old man of the match Mujeeb for 11. Mohammad Nabi got rid of Dawid Malan, who made 140 against Bangladesh, for 32 to precipitate a slide which saw England slump to 138-6. Skipper Jos Buttler was clean bowled by seamer Naveen-ul-Haq for nine, Rashid Khan had Liam Livingstone lbw on 10 before Nabi also dismissed Sam Curran (10). England were tied down, at one stage going more than eight overs without hitting a boundary until Brook managed the team's lone six of the innings in the 31st over. Mujeeb sent back Chris Woakes before effectively sealing the game in his next over, having Brook caught behind by Alikhil with England at 169-8. Brook's 66 came off 61 balls with seven fours and a six. Late fireworks from Adil Rashid (20), Reece Topley (15) and Mark Wood (18) only served to take England past the 200-mark. Earlier, Gurbaz, 21, piled up his runs off

World Cup 2023: Afghanistan can spring England upset, says coach Trott
Afghanistan may be bottom of the World Cup standings after losing their first two games, but the Asian side have the ability to upset defending champions England in their group fixture on Sunday, their English coach Jonathan Trott said. Afghanistan lost their tournament opener to Bangladesh in a low-scoring encounter before hosts India registered a comfortable eight-wicket victory. Afghanistan have lost 16 of their 17 World Cup matches but Trott said there is a «a lot of fight in the dressing room» as they look to find consistency with both the bat and ball. «I think this side's got the ability to upset any side. We've been so close in previous matches, it's just about getting over the line and making sure that we do,» Trott told reporters. «We'll have an opportunity tomorrow to put pressure on England and we've got to make sure we do that.» England thrashed Afghanistan by 150 runs at the last World Cup but Trott said the gulf in quality between the two sides has significantly reduced. «England are probably in a very similar place to where they were then and we've got a bit better as well,» he added. «That's why I'm very optimistic with tomorrow's game.» Afghanistan will hope Ben Stokes, who smashed a record-breaking 182 in his last one-day international, remains sidelined as he recovers from a hip injury which kept him out of England's first two games. «Ben seems to be getting better day on day.
