Death Experts country stars 2020 reports Investigations A medical report on soccer legend Maradona's death aims to undercut homicide case against medics
medical examiner's report into the death of Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona injected uncertainty Monday into the criminal negligence case brought against eight medical workers involved in his case a month before they are set to stand trial for homicide. A forensic expert conducted the study at the behest of one of the main defendants, Maradona's neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, in an effort to challenge the 2021 medical examination that held Luque and other doctors responsible for what it described as the soccer star's otherwise avoidable death. The defendants have denied any violations or irregularities in Maradona's treatment. Maradona, famous for leading Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup and back to the final four years later, died from a heart attack in 2020 while recovering from brain surgery.

markets UPS economy Trade President show Charting the global economy: BOJ holds; US inflation won’t let up
Bank of Japan kept interest rates unchanged, driving the yen to a fresh 34-year low, while US inflation showed few signs of simmering down. The Japanese yen slumped as BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda played down the impact on inflation from a weakening currency. While he’s indicated a preference to proceed gradually with rate increases, Ueda is trying to avoid restraining the economy. That’s becoming even more challenging after US data this week indicated inflation accelerated in the first quarter, reinforcing expectations the Federal Reserve is likely to keep interest rates higher for longer.

Stablecoin Tether's recent growth is being driven by its use as an alternative to the U.S. dollar in emerging markets, rather than by demand for cryptocurrency trading, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino told Reuters on Friday. It has grown rapidly in recent years, hitting more than $100 billion worth of Tether tokens in circulation in March. «In the last few years we have seen the usage of USDTgoing from pure cryptocurrency trading to being basically the most used digital dollar in the world», Ardoino said on the sidelines of the Token2049 crypto conference in Dubai, where industry enthusiasts gathered despite heavy rains this week disrupting life in the desert city.
