Delhi High Court orders SpiceJet to return engine to Belgian leaser by March 10
SpiceJet Ltd must strictly adhere to the deadline, the Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the low-cost airline to return leased engine to Engine Lease Finance BV, in Brussels, Belgium, at its own expense by March 10. It also asked Spicejet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh to file an affidavit within a week undertaking that the engine will be delivered on time without any further delay. The HC cautioned SpiceJet to take the deadline seriously while the lessor sought to initiate contempt proceedings against Singh if the engine was not returned as per the scheduled date.

Japanese Co Kirin to invest $25m more in B9 beverages
Kirin Holdings is investing $25 million (about ₹205 crore) to buy an additional minority stake in B9 Beverages, the maker of craft beer Bira 91 and owner of pub chain Beer Cafe, executives aware of the development said. The transaction, made through purchase of fresh shares, will boost Kirin's holding in B9 Beverages beyond the current nearly 20%, the executives said requesting anonymity. Another American financial investor is also close to investing $25 million for an additional stake in B9 Beverages, which is expected to be closed in the coming weeks, said one of the executives cited above. The person did not identify the investor. The fresh investments of $50 million (₹410 crore) are being done at a pre-money valuation of $600 million. Tokyo-listed Kirin Holdings had invested ₹570 crore in the beer company in late 2022, raising its stake to 20%, valuing the beer maker at $600 million. Launched in 2015, B9 Beverages sells craft, lager and strong beer across brands like Bira White, Gold and Boom. It has a presence in 24 countries and operates six breweries. Ankur Jain, B9 Beverages chief executive, and Rahul Singh, chief executive and founder of The Beer Cafe, could not be reached for comments.

US may allow 'self-certification', India, Africa resist EU diktat
Russian diamonds from the world’s affluent markets, a confused, volatile trade is feeling the pulls and pressures: a rigid rule pushed by Europe to probably regain its waning influence; the emerging voices of Africa and India opposing it; and, a new, different plan mooted last week in America, the largest market, which could make life easier for the trade amid the chaos of geopolitics. Trade sources told ET there was a glimmer of hope following a meeting last week between a US government official and the country’s leading jewellers who import diamonds mined across the world and polished in India and other countries. “It was indicated at the meeting that America could accept `self-certification’ from its jewellers that the diamonds imported into the country have no Russian links. Here, the process could be similar to the one applicable for American firms importing fish and seafood," said a senior industry person.

Europe's bid to boost gig workers' rights fails again
Europe's attempt to give workers at Uber, Deliveroo and other online platforms more social and labour rights failed a second time after France and three other countries abstained from voting on the watered-down political deal. Belgium, the current holder of the rotating EU presidency, is unlikely to muster enough support for yet another attempt, especially as the European Parliament which has to endorse a final deal, gradually winds down ahead of elections in June.

Mint Primer: From Europe to India, why are farmers angry?
Mint explains: Beginning January, farmers from several member-nations of the European Union (EU)—Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain—invaded cities with their tractors, burning tyres, dumping manure, raiding supermarkets, blocking access to ports and highways and choking city centres. They are protesting subsidy cuts, high energy prices, cheap grain imports from Ukraine, beef imports from Latin America, growing clout of big agribusiness and climate policies limiting the use of chemical inputs. It is a profitability crisis—due to higher farming costs and low produce prices.
