Britain spent millions to send migrants to Africa. So far, just two have gone.
Two years ago, the British government decided to spend big to outsource a migration problem. To deter migrants seeking asylum from illegally entering the country, it announced a radical plan: Those smuggled on makeshift dinghies to British shores would be sent to Rwanda, a small country in central Africa, where they would remain. AI regulation: People should be players, not pawns
Paul Graham of Y Combinator recently shared an anecdote that perfectly encapsulates the challenge of regulating artificial intelligence (AI). When he asked someone helping the British government with it what they would regulate, the response was a refreshingly honest, “I’m not sure yet." As Graham noted, this might be the most intelligent thing anyone has said about AI regulation thus far. AI creates a “pacing problem," first explained in Larry Downes’ book The Laws of Disruption.

Suspected Houthi attacks target a ship in Gulf of Aden and Israeli port city of Eilat
Yemen's Houthi rebels early Wednesday targeted a ship in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Israeli port city of Eilat, authorities said. The attacks follow the departure of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower after an eight-month deployment in which the aircraft carrier led the American response to the Houthi assaults. Those attacks have reduced shipping drastically through the route crucial to Asian, Middle East and European markets in a campaign the Houthis say will continue as long as the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip rages. The ship attack happened off the coast of Aden, the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange pleads guilty in deal with US that secures his freedom, ends legal fight
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has pleaded guilty to obtaining and publishing U.S. military secrets in a deal with Justice Department prosecutors that secures his liberty and concludes a drawn-out legal saga that raised divisive questions about press freedom and national security. The plea was entered Wednesday morning in federal court in Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands, an American commonwealth in the Pacific that is relatively close to Assange's native Australia and that accommodated his desire to avoid setting foot inside the continental United States.

Mint Quick Edit | Assange is free: Information, not so much
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is finally a free man. He walked out on bail from a UK jail after reaching a plea deal that will have him plead guilty in a US court on a single charge of conspiring to obtain and disclose national security secrets, in lieu of relief on other counts. He won’t have to face further jail time in the US, as he has already served longer than what the punishment entails.
