Thanks a bullion, RBI will take it from here; overseas gold reserves at 6-yr low
Reserve Bank of India's gold reserves parked overseas dropped to a six-year low at the end of March — 47% of total. This is the lowest since it started accumulating the precious metal in December 2017. Data shows that the RBI started bringing the gold to India in March 2022, coinciding with the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. This is in line with the trend of central banks globally that have turned cautious after the US government froze Russian foreign currency assets as the conflict began in February 2022.

Netanyahu again claims the US is withholding arms shipments, days after Washington denies it
Netanyahu told his Cabinet on Sunday that there had been a «dramatic drop» in U.S. weapons deliveries for Israel's war effort in Gaza, doubling down on a claim that the Biden administration has denied and underscoring the growing strains between the two allies. Netanyahu told his Cabinet that the drop had occurred four months ago, without specifying which weapons, saying only that «certain items arrived sporadically but the munitions at large remained behind.» The spat highlights how high tensions have surged between Israel and Washington over the war in Gaza, particularly surrounding the Israeli military's conduct in the beleaguered territory and the harm to civilian life there. President Joe Biden has delayed delivering certain heavy bombs since May over those concerns, but his administration fought back last week against Netanyahu's charges that other shipments had also been affected.

Like a true blockbuster, Euro 2024 has everything – action, emotion, comedy, drama, gastronomy, and goals
Let’s start with World Peace. For long, its proponents have looked down upon the plebeian influences of football. There is an honest intent to change that. This Euro continues with the previous one’s emotion of loving thy enemy. Germany's Antonio Rudiger played a good host by scoring one for the opponents.

India’s Olympic odyssey: From 1912 Stockholm discussions to bidding for 2036
These documents, a few of which are being reprinted for our readers, reveal a series of letters exchanged between the British Olympic Association, the International Olympic Committee and the India Office, discussing the prospects of Indian participation at the 1912 Olympics. Had this participation happened, India would have been among the first Asian countries to embrace the Olympic movement, alongside Japan, which established a national Olympic Committee in 1911 before participating in the 1912 competition.

Can we please ethnically cleanse 'ethnic wear'?
ethnic wear,’ I reach for the nearest clothes hangar. Being in a garments store recently, a hangar was, indeed, close at hand. But I refrained from hooking someone with it simply because, the shop being in Khan Market, it was impossible for me to distinguish between customers and the store’s employees. It may have been a close call for at least one member of India’s thriving retail industry. But the term ‘ethnic wear’ pisses me off no end. What ‘ethnic wear’? I know that you know that I know what it means — sari, salwar kameez, choli, sherwani, bandhgala, Khan suit…. Like light, I know ‘ethnic wear’ when I see it. But for a voluble section of the country — which, in its continued quest to be a nation of virtue-signallers, recently took to the ludicrous binary of ‘India’ and ‘Bharat’ in English, thereby quietly emphasising the perceived dowdiness of the latter against the perceived spunkiness of the former — their perfunctory use of the term ‘ethnic wear’ sounds not just preposterous, but downright embarrassing. ‘Ethnic,’ as an adjective, merely denotes belonging to an ethnicity, a population group or subgroup sharing a common genetic descent and/or cultural background. So ‘Germanic’ is as good a description of ‘ethnic’ as ‘Hispanic’ or ‘Indian’ and ‘Western’ or ‘Nordic’. And yet, somehow, you enter a store — here in India — and there’s a section devoted to ‘ethnic wear’. In India.

Tata Steel may shut blast furnaces in UK earlier amid strike by workers
Tata Steel Ltd may shut down its blast furnaces in the UK earlier than what it had initially planned amid a certain section of its workers planning an indefinite strike to protest against 2,800 job losses. Tata Steel, which has the capacity to produce 3 million tonne of steel each year in UK, plans to shut down one blast furnace at the end of the month, while the second one is scheduled to be closed at the end of September. “Our existing steelmaking assets are near the end of their life, are operationally unstable and causing unsustainable losses of £1 million a day,” Tata Steel said in a statement.
