MP CM Mohan Yadav's visit to UK, Germany: Congress calls it 'open drama for investment'
Congress on Saturday dubbed Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's tour of United Kingdom and Germany as «open drama in the name of investment» and jibed that he wanted to be an «international tourist» like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party hit back by calling the Congress «anti-development» and said it was not «tourism but drawing investment for the betterment of the state». Yadav will be visiting the two European nations from November 23 to December 1. In a statement, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari said, «An open drama going on in the name of investment in Madhya Pradesh. Crores of rupees are being spent in the name of government publicity. When the CM and officials got bored of roaming in various states, they are now exploring the possibilities of government tourism abroad.»

Chicago Tribune, Oprah's hometown newspaper, blasts her for taking $1 million to share stage with Kamala Harris
Among the campaign expenses by Kamala Harris, there were two payments of $500,000 each to Harpo Productions, that was done on October 15, 2024, according to the Federal Election Commission filings. Winfrey is the chairwoman and CEO of that very company, according to the DailyMail UK. Therefore, it became quite clear that Winfrey had appeared on events in presence of Kamala Harris in exchange for money, and not just out of love and endorsement of the Democrat candidate. For Winfrey, it apparently was all business, and Harris also used up her war-chest to mislead the US voters, according to reports. However, these actions by Harris are the ones that landed her in millions of dollars in debt, something that has been take note of by US donors, who generously provided for the Democrat campaign, but it did not suffice due to overspending, and not staying within the campaign budget. This has led to the campaign staffers not receiving due money, which has taken the Harris team on the verge of bankruptcy, say reports.

Lord Mayor Alastair King calls for ISA reform to boost investment into UK equities
In his Mansion House speech on Thursday (14 November), King, who was elected the 696th Lord Mayor in late September, suggested conditioning a «full tax break» on ISAs by having account holders invest in UK companies. This move, according to him, would align the regime with other competitors on the market. «When the forerunner of ISAs was introduced, the deal was simple: in return for favourable tax treatment, investors put their money into UK equities,» he said. «It is time to look at that model once again – not mandating anything but saying that if you want your full tax break, yo...

Tripura: Congress ignored contribution of tribals in India's fight for independence, says Scindia
Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday criticised the Congress for overlooking the significant contributions of the tribal community in India's fight for independence. Speaking at a programme marking the birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, the DoNER and communications minister called the tribal leaders «heroes not only for the tribal community but for the entire nation.» «Birsa Munda fought a decisive battle against British rule and made the ultimate sacrifice for Bharat Mata. He is a hero to 140 crore people in India, not just the janajati (tribal) community,» Scindia said, asserting that India's history would be incomplete without acknowledging the tribal contributions to the freedom struggle. Taking aim at the Congress, Scindia claimed that the tribals were neglected under its rule and their historical contributions were forgotten.

BoE's Andrew Bailey: We must rebuild UK-EU relations as global economy fragments
Speaking at the Mansion House Financial and Professional Services dinner on Thursday (15 November), the governor urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves to «welcome opportunities to rebuild» post-Brexit relations with the continent. «Now, as I have said many times, as a public official I take no position on Brexit per se. That is important. But I do have to point out consequences. The changing trading relationship with the EU has weighed on the level of potential supply,» he said. «The impact on trade seems to be more in goods than services, that is not particularly surprising to my mind. But...

UK economy grows only 0.1% in third quarter after September slowdown
The quarterly gross domestic product figure published by the Office for National Statistics today (15 November) compared with an expansion of 0.5% in the second quarter and came in below economist consensus for 0.2% growth. Production fell by 0.5% in September, mostly as a result of a decline in manufacturing output. This marked a significant departure from August, when that figure stood at 0.5%. Overall, the sector recorded a 0.2% decline over the three months to September. Similarly, services output notched up just 0.1% in the third quarter, but monthly figures for September showed ...

What is Bluesky; Why is Twitter founder's rival app for Elon Musk's X crashing?
Elon Musk has been the biggest beneficiary of Donald Trump's win in United States' elections, however, his social media platform X is now witnessing an exodus with celebrities and news organisations moving to Twitter founder's Jack Dorsey app. Among the largest beneficiaries of that desire is Bluesky, a rival service that has gained more than 1 million new users in the week since the election, a company spokesperson, Emily Liu, said Tuesday. The majority of the new users live in the United States, Canada and Britain, she added. «We're seeing increased activity levels across all different forms of engagement,» she said in an email.

Party of Sri Lanka's new Marxist-leaning president takes large lead in parliamentary vote
Anura Kumara Dissanayake took a large lead Friday in early results from the parliamentary elections, in an apparent solid mandate for his program for economic revival. Dissanayake's National People's Power Party won 15 of the 22 electoral districts whose results have been released so far by the Elections Commission. Dissanayake was elected president on Sept. 21 in a rejection of traditional political parties that have governed the island nation since its independence from British rule in 1948. But he received just 42% of the votes, fueling questions over his party's outlook in Thursday's parliamentary elections. But the party received large increases in support less than two months into his presidency.
