Hotel Leela Venture challenges ITC's shareholder oppression claims
Hotel Leela Venture Limited (HLV) has challenged ITC's claims of shareholder oppression against it in a fresh twist to a five-year-old legal tussle at the centre of which is the 2019 sale of key Leela properties to Canada's investment giant Brookfield for ₹4,250 crore, according to sources aware of the developments. ITC is opposing that sale transaction claiming it was to the detriment of minority shareholders. The cigarettes-to-FMCG conglomerate owns a stake in HLV Limited. National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) allowed ITC's petition claiming shareholder oppression and mismanagement at HLV Limited on January 24 this year, though the company doesn't have the requisite shareholding of 10% required to file such lawsuits as per rules laid down in India's Companies Act.

Charting the global economy: India can be the world's no.1 contributor to GDP growth by 2028
Bloomberg) --The European Central Bank held the line on interest rates but officials leaned even more toward a mid-year cut should inflation continue to cool. Lower borrowing costs would help nudge a European economy that’s struggled to register any growth for longer than a year. On the other side of the Atlantic, US economic activity is on much more solid footing and inflation is running too fast for Federal Reserve policymakers. Here are some of the charts that appeared on Bloomberg this week on the latest developments in the global economy, geopolitics and markets:

The hunger artist, when writing is a per diem exercise
Ernest Hemingway once said that he liked to look at Cezanne's paintings when he was ravenously hungry. In his 1964 memoir of his Paris apprentice days, The Moveable Feast, Hemingway writes: 'I learned to understand Cezanne much better and to see truly how he made landscapes when I was hungry. I used to wonder if he were hungry too when he painted; but I thought possibly it was only that he had forgotten to eat. It was one of those unsound but illuminating thoughts you have when you have been sleepless or hungry.' Hunger sharpens one's critical faculties. It also sharpens one's ability to feel and seek out injustice. And then, I looked at myself in the mirror. No way could someone ever mistake me for a writer. There was nothing frugal about my frame. I looked like a well-fed bulldog just awakened from his siesta.
