aggressive winds and rain from post-tropical cyclone Lee on Saturday, dozens of people still flocked to Peggy’s Cove to watch waves rise several metres and crash onto the shoreline near the famous lighthouse.A security guard was present at the lighthouse site Saturday morning to escort people away from potentially hazardous areas near the water as waves continued to break.Earlier in the day, Halifax Regional Municipality released a statement saying that Peggy’s Cove had since been closed to the public.“Residents are advised to avoid shoreline areas as they pose an extreme risk, especially during peak tides,” the statement read.In addition to Peggy’s Cove, the Eastern Shore, and Bedford, Halifax and Dartmouth Waterfronts were all listed as areas of significant concern.Although waves continued to crash and make their way over the shoreline, not everyone decided to err on the side of caution as dozens headed to the Halifax waterfront to get a first-hand glimpse of the storm’s impact. One man decided to take it another step further by doing a flip into the harbour in a full-body swimsuit.During a news conference on Saturday afternoon, Halifax Mayor Mike Savage doubled down on calls to avoid the shorelines and urged locals to stay away from the coast.“This is no time to go wave watching,” he said, adding that seawater, downed trees, and power lines have blocked several roads in the Halifax area.“Stay away from the waters … for your own safety and the safety of first responders that might be called to assist.

NASA. The scorching heat waves experienced in North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions are attributed to human-induced global warming, compounded by the recurring climate phenomenon known as El Niño. NASA's analysis reveals that August 2023 was exceptionally hot, with temperatures 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.2 degrees Celsius) above the average for summer. This extreme heatwave affected a staggering 57 million people in the southern and southwestern United States, reaching the highest category of severity. Lowe's Reuters Cooper Fighting show country Low India-Canada ties hit a new low as trade minister Mary Ng postpones India trip
India and Canada have hit a new low as Canadian trade minister Mary Ng has 'postponed' a planned trade mission to Mumbai next month without giving any explanation. The move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's not-so-happy trip to India for the G20 Summit this month that also involved an extended stay here due to a snag in his flight. Ng was to come to Mumbai on October 9 along with Canadian businesses for a five-day trip known as a 'Team Canada' trade mission to revive bilateral trade talks that are currently paused, review trade ties, and meet industry representatives. «At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,» a spokesperson for the minister said without giving a reason, as per a Reuters report. The relationship between Canada and India has been showing signs of strain in recent times with the Trudeau government taking limited steps to address India's concerns over anti-India activities in Canada. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India's concerns to Trudeau following the G20 Summit here. Officials here said extremist elements in Canada are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship. They said the nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. Modi had told Trudeau that it is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats.

firearm buyback says it still does not know when the program will begin. This comes as the amnesty on banned firearms is set to expire on Oct. 30.“I implore the government to announce an amnesty extension as soon as possible to alleviate the stress for a lot of people that own these firearms,” Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA) president Wes Winkel told Global News.“I don’t think there’s any way that, even if there is the potential to make an announcement for a date to initiate the buyback, there’s no way to get it completed, obviously, by the end of October, not with the volume of guns that are out there.”The plan announced in April is to first run a business buyback of around 1,800 firearms banned by a May 1, 2020 order in council in the wake of the mass shooting that began in Portapique, N.S.
