Who will host 2026 Commonwealth Games? London Mayor shows interest, Rishi Sunak govt Remains skeptical
This is important because the British government has said that stepping in to host the commonwealth games is ‘slightly ahead of time’. Which Commonwealth nation has come forward? New Zealand and another Australian state have said that they are not ready to host the multisports event. The Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago are hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games from August 4 to August 11. More than one thousand athletes between the age of 14 and 18 are expected to participate in the youth games. As they have the infrastructure ready and have invested a lot, they may be ready to host the event, but the Caribbean islands are yet to make an offer. London Mayor Sadiq Khan has shown interest in hosting the match considering the fact that GBP 500 is less than what it may cost in other countries to host such a massive event. He has said that London ‘stands ready’ to host the games, but he added that it is up to the government to submit the bid. But the government wants Australia to take the responsibility.Indian Olympic General Secretary Rajiv Mehta has said that India is interested in holding the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Malaysian state of Selangor has also shown interest in hosting the games. The Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur hosted the event in 1998. Sri Lanka was preparing in November 2020 to offer to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Hambantota. Similarly, the Canadian city of Victoria too has said that it can host the games. Canada hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1994.

Canada Open Work Permit for H1B visa holders will be advantageous for Indians. Here's why?
H-1B visas are limited in numbers and there’s huge uncertainty over getting green cards; so these companies are likely to be looking at the option of transferring staff members who are in the US through the open work permit scheme," he says. Many Indians are considering the long-term opportunity presented by Canada's Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) through the Express Entry program.

'Barbie' Box Office to the world: The pandemic is officially over
Greta Gerwig's gender wars "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's nuclear war "Oppenheimer" blew past already-stratospheric prerelease expectations at the weekend box office to collect a combined $235.5 million in the United States and Canada, an astounding total that sent a clear message to Hollywood: If you want to commandeer the culture, you must give moviegoers something new — not just the same old threadbare franchises. «Original storytelling executed in the right way has broken out in a really remarkable way,» said Richard L. Gelfond, the CEO of IMAX, which accounted for 26% of the «Oppenheimer» turnout in North America, selling out even 4 a.m.

Canada’s open work permit could become a permanent pathway to the US for many Indians
The open work permit stream that was announced by the Canadian ministry of immigration last month, targeted specifically at US H-1B work permit visa holders, under Canada’s new tech talent strategy; was oversubscribed in less than 48 hours. Considering that the largest number of H-1B visa holders in the US, who are eligible applicants for this scheme, are Indians, it is apparent that the typical profile of applicants is Indian nationals who are stuck in the US on long green card queues. The open work permit, which had been announced b
