Vistara flight from Delhi made a priority landing here on Wednesday due to a «minor» technical issue, the airline said. The aircraft landed safely and is currently undergoing inspection, it added. «Shortly before landing, a minor technical snag was detected on Vistara flight UK 995 that was operating from Delhi to Mumbai on 14 August 2024,» a Vistara spokesperson said in a statement. As a precautionary step, the pilots requested the Air Traffic Controller for «priority landing», and landed safely at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Vistara said without sharing the number of people on board.

Sapna Choudhary, Haryana's famous dancer and singer, is currently dealing with legal issues after Delhi's Tis Hazari Court issued a non-bailable warrant against her. The warrant is related to a cheating case that arose from a complaint filed by Delhi's Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). The case centers around allegations of financial misconduct dating back to 2021.

Delhi airport operator DIAL on Wednesday said the new T1 terminal will be operational from August 17, with IndiGo and SpiceJet set to shift a significant part of their domestic operations to the new terminal. Operations at the old T1 were suspended in late June following a roof collapse incident. The new terminal was developed as part of the phase 3A expansion project by the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). «As per the plan, SpiceJet would shift their 13 flights to Terminal 1 from August 17 and subsequently IndiGo would move back their 34 flights from T2 and T3 to T1, from September 2,» DIAL said in a release.

Air India Express has launched six new daily direct flights in a single day, said a press release on Tuesday. The Tata-owned Air India subsidiary airlines will be flying five new routes as a part of this launch which include Guwahati-Jaipur, exclusive to Air India Express. The new flights are operating on the Chennai-Bhubaneswar, Chennai-Bagdogra, Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata-Varanasi, Kolkata-Guwahati, and Guwahati-Jaipur routes. Moreover, to accommodate growing demand on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram route, which was previously served by two weekly flights, the airline has now added an extra daily service, increasing the total to nine flights per week. Air India Express now connects Chennai directly to 10 destinations which include Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram domestically, and Dammam, Kuwait, and Singapore internationally.

Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to clarify its position on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which stated that the new criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) lacks a provision equivalent to Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 377 had previously criminalized «sodomy» and "unnatural sex," but was partially decriminalized by the Supreme Court in 2018, stated the plea. The bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and including Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, has given the Union of India's counsel ten days to take instructions on the grievance raised in the PIL and fixed the matter for further hearing on August 27, 2024.

Delhi government's anti-corruption branch (ACB) has arrested seven individuals, including a suspended GST officer, three advocates, two transporters, and a proprietor of fake firms, for their alleged involvement in a GST fraud racket. The fraud involved fraudulent GST refunds that amounted to approximately Rs 54 crore, and forged invoices totaling Rs 718 crore were discovered. The operation uncovered nearly 500 non-existent firms, which appeared to be engaging in business activities solely on paper to claim the fraudulent refunds, a TOI report stated. Officials have pointed to significant procedural lapses and malpractices by the arrested GST officer, Babita Sharma, who has since been suspended. The fraudulent refunds were reportedly approved without proper verification of input tax credit, which has resulted in a substantial loss to the government’s exchequer. ACB Chief Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma highlighted the nature of the fraud:

Wait times for B1/B2 visa vary significantly across U.S. consulates in India. In Calcutta, the U.S. consulate offers the shortest visa wait time of 24 calendar days. In contrast, the wait time in Hyderabad is 407 calendar days, while in Delhi, it extends to 386 calendar days. The consulate in Bombay has a wait time of 422 calendar days, and in Chennai, applicants face the longest wait, which is 477 calendar days.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Macron said he believes in India's future. He added that the Olympics is fierce competition. «First of all, I am a strong believer in your country and the future of your country. And what you can build and your capacity to organise such events. I think this is a fierce competition. You should not underestimate that fact. I remember that seven years ago when we went to Lausanne, we did compete with the US at that time — Los Angeles. And we found this agreement at the end, it was, it is still a great cooperation. SpiceJet on Monday managed to avert a shutdown of its flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, resolving a tricky situation in the nick of time which could have affected several passengers. On Monday evening, CSMIA issued a passenger advisory stating that operations stating that effective midnight on 13 August 2024, SpiceJet flight operations from Mumbai International Airport are expected to be temporarily disrupted. “Mumbai International Airport is working with the airline to address the situation to minimise inconvenience to passengers,” the company said. However, within a few hours, the Adani-operated airport withdrew the advisory. In the meanwhile, the Ajay Singh-promoted SpiceJet issued a statement saying, «The passenger advisory issued by MIAL has been withdrawn. Our flight operations in and out of Mumbai are operating normally. SpiceJet and MIAL have worked collaboratively to swiftly resolve a minor financial matter.”

Max Estates, the property arm of the MaxGroup, has received approval from the Noida authority to overtake a commercial project in sector 16B Noida, by clearing Rs 613 crore dues of the authority. In February 2023, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the resolution plan of Max for the development of a commercial plot measuring 34,697 square meters in Noida under the project name ‘Delhi One’. The NCLT had asked the developer to seek the authority's approval for the implementation of the plan.

Bengaluru recently took to social media to highlight the plight of international travelers from India when their tickets are arbitrarily canceled by airlines. According to the woman, she had recently booked a Delhi-San Francisco flight, but Air India canceled it without notice and offered passengers the option to fly on a different date. When passengers objected, they were offered seats on an alternate flight with a 10-hour layover. The woman claimed that Air India refused to provide the passengers with tickets for a flight departing directly from Bengaluru.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that police prevented four Bangladeshi nationals from entering India illegally through Karimganj district. Sarma stated on X, “This morning at 1:30 AM, Bangladeshi citizens identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah attempted to enter India through the Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border. However, police effectively intervened at the zero point and promptly repelled them, preventing their unauthorized entry.” He told media persons these people were Rohingyas and it is not related to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.

SpiceJet seems to be mounting as its engine lessors — Team France 01 SAS and Sunbird France 02 SAS — on Monday rejected its promoter Ajay Singh’s offer to pledge his personal shares, equivalent to the outstanding dues of $2.5 million, towards discharge of the airline’s liability. Senior counsel, Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Spicejet, told the Delhi High Court that Singh is willing to pledge his unencumbered shares towards discharge of the airline’s liability with the HC and the same can be encashed if it failed to pay till September 30. “We are not putting any conditions. The court can pass orders for immediate release if we don’t pay between now and September 30,” he argued. However, the lessors rejected the offer, saying they don’t want “pledge of shares of a company whose existence is shaky…The pledge is not acceptable. We have given them a long leash. We want our engines back. And we have been asking for disclosure of Singh’s assets since January,” senior counsel Raj Shekar Rao told a Bench of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora.

NEW DELHI : Rockefeller Foundation-backed Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) plans to support the development of 2 gigawatt hours (GWh) of cumulative utility-scale battery-energy-storage capacity, said Saurabh Kumar, vice president, India, GEAPP. In an interview, Kumar said GEAPP, in partnership with IndiGrid, is expected to commission the country's first commercial utility-scale project by the end of this year or the start of 2025. It would be set up in Delhi.
