Rahul Gandhi again requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to visit violence-hit Manipur and impress upon both the central and state governments to work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict there at the earliest. Gandhi said on Thursday, he met a group of Manipuri people living in Delhi who shared their heartbreaking struggles since ethnic clashes broke out in the northeastern state. «They spoke of the pain of being separated from loved ones and the physical and mental toll the conflict has taken on their communities,» Gandhi said in a post on X.

Director General of Delhi Prisons Satish Golcha announced the grant of remission to more than 1,160 convicts. In addition, he revealed the prisons have installed 1,248 additional face recognition system-fitted CCTV cameras to enhance the safety of inmates in the prisons. According to a statement from Delhi Prisons, Tihar, Golcha announced the special remission for convicts on Thursday after hoisting the tricolour on the premises. A total of 1,160 eligible convicts were granted remission ranging from 15 to 25 days based on their conduct during their time in prison, it said.

Air India on Thursday announced the cancellation of its scheduled flight from Delhi to Narita, Japan, on Friday, citing severe weather warnings at Tokyo. Passengers with confirmed bookings for flights AI306 and AI307 on the Delhi-Narita-Delhi route on August 16 are eligible for a one-time waiver on rescheduling or can opt for a full refund in case of cancellation. The airline shared this update via a post on X and said that the decision to prioritize passenger safety amid the weather warnings in Tokyo.

Siddaramaiah on Thursday urged the Centre to release a fair amount of grants to states for development while accusing it of discrimination in the allocation of funds. By ignoring constitutional principles, there is a tendency to delay the financial share due to the states, he said, adding that this attitude was compelling the states to seek legal recourse to get their rightful share from the Centre. Resident doctors at government hospitals in some states, including West Bengal and Delhi, continued their strike as various doctors' bodies differed over calling off the strike. The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) on Tuesday night called off its strike after meeting Union Health Minister J P Nadda. Delhi High Court's Justice Subramonium Prasad on Wednesday recused himself from hearing the plea filed by alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, seeking additional meetings in jail with his lawyers. The recusal was due to the multiple legal cases against Chandrasekhar, which could potentially present a conflict of interest or require a different judicial perspective. Sukesh Chandrashekhar through a plea requested permission to increase his meetings with his legal counsel to five times a week. This request sought an additional three meetings beyond the two meetings per week currently allowed. To support his request, Chandrashekar referred to the Arvind Kejriwal case where he was granted five weekly meetings with his council.

SpiceJet Ltd, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked it to ground the three engines by Friday and return them to its lessors — Team France 01 SAS and Sunbird France 02 SAS — in 15 days. It also asked the low-cost carrier to make arrangements for inspection of these engines. The Ajay Singh-led carrier has been struggling to secure funding following consecutive quarterly losses. The airline faces legal action from lessors over unpaid dues and has had requests made to the aviation regulator for de-registering their aircraft.

According to IMD data, Safdarjung had accumulated 220.8 mm of rainfall in August by Tuesday evening, approaching the monthly average of 233.1 mm. The current weather patterns include a monsoon trough near its usual position and a cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan extending up to mid-tropospheric levels. This system, along with another cyclonic circulation over southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan, is contributing to rainfall in northwest India.
