In the action plan for Sunday, members of the Delhi resident doctors' association (RDA) have decided to take out a candle march outside Gate 1 of Rajiv Chowk Metro Station at 6 pm. «As approved in today's general body meeting, residents from all medical colleges and institutions in Delhi will gather for a candle march protest in Connaught Place,» a statement from the GTB Hospital RDA read. «We will assemble in groups of 3-4 at Gate No. 1, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, form a human chain, and light candles at the inner circle to raise awareness about the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata,» it added.

Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Tuesday BRS leader K Kavitha's pleas seeking bail in corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. The apex court had on August 12 sought responses from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Kavitha's pleas challenging the Delhi High Court's July 1 verdict denying her bail in these cases. As per the cause list of August 20 uploaded on the top court website, a bench of justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan is slated to hear her pleas. During the arguments on August 12, Kavitha's counsel had sought bail contending that she has been in custody for around five months and the charge sheet and prosecution complaint have already been filed by the CBI and the ED respectively.

Kaushik Basu on Saturday said India needs to tame inflation that disproportionately affects people who spend a large chunk of their income on food and could exacerbate inequality. «Even if inflation is at 5.1%, food inflation is at 30%. For someone spending 50% of their income on food, that 30% food inflation is hitting them significantly harder despite government programmes like PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojana providing some relief,» Basu said at a Delhi School of Economics event to mark its 75 years of existence. Basu, who served as the chief economic advisor to the central government under the United Progressive Alliance regime, also underscored the importance of the next 10-15 years for lower middle-income category countries such as India to unleash the demand for labour.
