Delhi Minister Atishi claims DJB budget shortages are part of a conspiracy
finance department of orchestrating a scheme to withhold funds from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), resulting in a critical shortage of manpower and equipment necessary for sewer line maintenance and repairs. Atishi alleges that since the beginning of the 2023-24 fiscal year, the finance department has been creating «unnecessary» obstacles and generating an "artificial financial crisis." Documents reviewed by the Times of India reveal that the release of funds allocated for this fiscal year has not adhered to the scheduled timeline, severely impacting the water utility's operations.

Unified Pension Scheme: The political motive behind Modi govt's new big move
BJP) is targeting political gains from government employees by offering a Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) that includes a 50% salary as pension and inflation adjustment, countering the Congress's promise of a return to the unfunded Old Pension Scheme (OPS), a ToI report said on August 25. This move comes ahead of key assembly polls in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand. Recently, some government employees were influenced by Congress's OPS promise, particularly in Himachal Pradesh, said the report (by Akhilesh Singh). Government cadres have traditionally been a solid vote bank for the BJP, especially in Delhi, where elections are imminent in February. However, the demand for restoring OPS was leveraged by Congress in recent state elections to challenge the BJP. This tactic appeared effective in Himachal Pradesh, a state where government employees have significant influence. Despite this, BJP managed to win both Lok Sabha and assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh without much damage from the OPS issue. The dissatisfaction among some government employees was noticeable during the Lok Sabha polls, although it was less pronounced than in state elections. Observers suggested that this discontent could be influential in upcoming election battles.

Delhi drowning in its trash, silt, and AAP govt's feuds with Centre
Delhi. Not so much because of the rain, but because it has caused residents to drown to death, from those attempting to walk through flooded roads to unfortunate IAS candidates caught off guard by a sudden flood in their coaching center's basement library. In fact, new waterlogging zones have recently emerged in almost every part of the city, from Zakhira in West Delhi to Satya Niketan off Dhaula Kuan to the SPA-Kotla road axis to the posh Golf Links Road and Lutyens bungalows, which found themselves in nearly knee-deep water this rainy season. The looming question is whether this is due to the high rainfall levels alone, or if it is a man-made disaster unfolding in the capital, exacerbated by the AAP government's decade-long political slugfest with the Centre?

In real world, emissions are much higher than in lab tests: Study
Delhi: Real-world vehicle emissions are much higher than laboratory tests suggest and CNG vehicles, once considered a cleaner alternative, actually emit high levels of nitrogen oxides, according to a new study. Conducted as part of The Real Urban Emissions (TRUE) Initiative in collaboration with authorities in Delhi and Gurugram, the study utilised non-intrusive remote sensing technology to measure the emissions of on-road vehicles. The study, conducted with technical analysis by the global think tank International Council on Clean Transportation, revealed that nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from BS-VI private cars were 81 per cent lower than those from BS-IV cars. Similarly, BS-VI buses produced 95% lower NOx compared to BS-IV buses.

Delhi HC orders man to publicly apologise to Alt News co-founder Zubair for 'Jihadi' remark
Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered Jagdish Singh to post an apology on X for labeling Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair as a «jihadi» in a post from four years ago, reported TOI. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani's single-judge bench directed Singh to issue the apology within a week and keep it on X for at least two months. The directive followed a 2020 petition by Zubair seeking to dismiss a Delhi Police FIR after Singh accused him of cyber sexual harassment related to a retweet of Singh’s granddaughter's blurred photo. Delhi Police had cleared Zubair of wrongdoing in the case, according to the TOI repot. The court stated that Zubair would not pursue further action against Singh once the apology was posted, and Singh must include the specific text: «I regret making the above comment which was not made with any malice or intention to hurt or offend Mohammed Zubair,» referring to Singh's original tweet claiming «Once a jihadi is always jihadi.»

Insha Ghai Kalra's husband, 29, dies of sudden cardiac arrest: What causes heart attacks in apparently healthy, young people?
Insha Ghai Kalra has dispelled fake news regarding the death of her husband, Ankit Kalra. Ankit, an interior designer and social media influencer, passed away suddenly on August 19. Although she did not divulge the reason behind his demise, the influencer hinted it may have been a heart attack. “Ankit, you left me to be with God, and it's so unfair. Our 1.5 years together were far too short. That morning, I had no idea it would be our last. I'm still in denial, praying that this is all just a terrible dream and I'll wake up on your side. Your heart gave up, and with it, my life has come to a stop. We had so many plans, and now I'm lost without you. This can't be true. You left me behind, and it's a loss I'll never overcome! Heaven is so so lucky to have you,“ she wrote. This gave rise to many speculations as to what could have caused his death. Insha later took to Instagram to issue a clarification and debunk fake news. “To all those who make fake assumptions. He was a healthy person and had no medical history. It was an unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest while sleeping. So please, if you can not support the family in their tough times, please don't overshare fake news,” she wrote.
