OBC and Dalit religious mutt heads have thrown their weight behind Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as he battles political and legal attacks over allotment of plots to his wife in Mysuru.
About a dozen Swamis met the CM at his official residence in Bengaluru in a public demonstration of their support, seeking to send a message to the BJP & JDS as well as to the Congress leadership that their communities were with Siddaramaiah.
The Opposition BJP and JDS which have been on a warpath with the ruling Congress demanding the CM’s resignation.
The CM is battling charges of being complicit in his wife Parvathi getting 14 pricey plots in an upscale locality in Mysuru. The BJP & JDS had taken a padayatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru early this month to press for Siddaramaiah’s ouster.
Siddaramaiah returned to Bengaluru after meeting the party leadership in Delhi on Friday and securing a word of assurance that they would back him in the party’s counter campaign against the BJP.
Siddaramaiah, who commands a formidable following among the OBCs, Dalits and minorities after consolidating them under the Ahinda banner more than 15 years ago, became the CM for a second term, last year, largely on their support.
As the CM came under sustained attacks in recent weeks, the mutt heads have come together under the banner of Association of Seers from the OBC, Dalit and Oppressed Communities and have extended unconditional support to him.
