Delhi Court dismisses BRS MLC K Kavitha's interim bail application in excise policy scam
K Kavitha in the excise policy case. The BRS leader was seeking bail on account of her 16-year-old son's exams for which he needed his mother's «moral and emotional support». The court of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja heard the submissions made by the counsel appearing for Kavitha and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). During the hearing, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who appeared for Kavitha claimed that the perspective of a mother is not substitutable by father, sister or brother. «The woman accused in this case has a child whose exams are admittedly in these months, going onto April. It's not that the child is in arms or is toddler. He is 16 years old. The issue is different. It's the moral and emotional support of the mother,» said Singhvi during the court hearing.

Does the new income tax regime suit you? Find out who should move from the old tax regime to the new one
tax matters can put you in a tight spot. Having coughed up a high tax for the past three months, Shilpa Bose knows this too well. The Delhi-based marketing professional submitted investment proof and other documents before the 15 January deadline, but still ended up paying a high tax. “The finance department didn’t take into account my tax-saving investments, medical insurance premium and home loan interest payments,” she says. That’s because Bose had not specified her choice of tax regime, which put her under the new tax regime by default and made her ineligible to claim many tax deductions and exemptions. A lot of salaried taxpayers might be in the same boat. Last year’s Budget had made the new tax regime the default option for salaried taxpayers. The employees who did not inform their companies about the tax regime they preferred were automatically put in the new tax regime. OLD REGIME

Hardik Pandya finds relief from unending booing as MI secures first IPL 2024 win
Mumbai Indians' captain Hardik Pandya finally received some reprieve from the unending booing he had been subjected to in the last few days, during Sunday's IPL clash against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Pandya had faced hostility from crowds in previous matches at different stadiums, including Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The 29-year-old had been under scrutiny both in person and on social media after his return to Mumbai Indians as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. During Mumbai Indians' previous home game against Rajasthan Royals, Pandya faced continuous booing, prompting former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar to appeal to fans for restraint.

MI vs DC: Memes flood Twitter after Mumbai Indians trounce Delhi Capitals to secure their first IPL 2024 win
Delhi Capitals suffered their fourth loss in five matches, slipping down to the bottom of the IPL table. DC now also has the worst NRR of -1.370 among all teams. Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted an imposing 234 for 5 against Delhi Capitals on Wankhede's placid track. Former skipper Rohit Sharma provided a blazing start, scoring 49 off 27 balls and adding 80 for the opening stand in just 7 overs with Ishan Kishan (42 off 23 balls), while Hardik Pandya (39 off 33 balls) and Tim David (45 not out off 21 balls) also contributed useful runs at the back-end. However, it was Romario Shepherd who smashed 39 off 10 balls, with 32 coming off the final over from Anrich Nortje (2/65 in 4 overs), which might have taken the target beyond DC's reach. DC conceded as many as 51 runs in the last two overs. When DC started its chase, Prithvi Shaw came up with a 40-ball 66 with three sixes and eight fours, but the asking rate kept soaring beyond its reach. No. 3 Porel hit a few attractive strokes but failed to make the most of a lifeline he got while batting on 30. The left-hander eventually perished for a 31-ball 41 with five fours, and following him back in the hut soon was Delhi captain Rishabh Pant (1). Delhi's lower order also cut a sorry figure, with Axar Patel (8), Lalit Yadav (3), debutant Kumar Kushagra (0), and Jhye Richardson (2) falling in quick succession, giving Gerald Coetzee a four-wicket haul.

Meet Romario Shepherd who slammed 39 runs in 10 balls in MI vs DC IPL match
Romario Shepherd made headlines on Sunday by slamming 39 runs in just 10 balls during an Indian Premier League match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, helping the Mumbai Indians register their first victory of this year's IPL season. Shepherd went berserk in the final over, smashing a boundary on each delivery. After finding the fence on the first delivery, he showed his ruthless power by hitting three consecutive sixes off the first three deliveries, leaving Nortje clueless. Another four and a six to end the innings powered MI to 234/5. His swashbuckling performance was crucial in the Mumbai Indians' victory. MI went on to register their first victory in the IPL season, defeating the Delhi Capitals by 29 runs.

MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 29 runs to win first game of ongoing IPL season
Romario Shepherd's 10-ball 39 not out outmuscled Tristan Stubb's courageous 71 off 25 balls as Mumbai Indians ended its three-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League with a 29–run win against Delhi Capitals here on Sunday. Conceding as many as 51 runs in the last two overs proved catastrophic for Delhi Capitals, whose bowlers remained wayward and batters lacked the spunk in the initial overs to go after MI bowlers, even though Stubbs went ballistic to make 25-ball 71 not out. The right-handed Stubbs smacked as many as seven sixes and three fours but his effort could only reduce the margin of defeat for Delhi, who lost a flurry of wickets towards the end to finish at 205 for eight in reply to Mumbai Indians' 234 for five. Once again poor quality of domestic talent in DC set-up proved to be their undoing. Save Abhishek Porel, none of the other young uncapped Indians have measured up.

AAP government distributes fake medicines in Mohalla Clinics: BJP's Bansuri Swaraj
BJP leader and party candidate from the New Delhi Lok Sabha parliamentary seat, Bansuri Swaraj, slammed the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and alleged pathetic conditions in Mohalla Clinics in the city. Swaraj, who was addressing a gathering on Sunday, said fake medicines are being distributed in Mohalla clinics, and administrative staff treat patients. «On one side, PM Modi distributes good quality and less expensive medicines in Janaushadhi Kendra, on the other side, the AAP government distributes fake medicines in Mohalla Clinics. Doctors don't treat patients in Mohalla Clinics but the administrative staff look after patients. This is what their Delhi Model is?, she asked.

PM wants to end corruption, Indi alliance wants to save corrupt people, says JP Nadda
Nadda on Sunday charged that the INDI Alliance leaders, who are either on bail or in jail, were keen on protecting the corrupt people whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi was striving hard to end corruption in the country. Those leaders such as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, were in prison while Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul were on bail, Nadda said and claimed the opposition leaders presented a contrasting picture compared to the Prime Minister who is an epitome of development and determined to end corruption. «Prime Minister Narendra Modi says I will finish corruption, but the INDI alliance leaders say save the corrupt people. That is their working style. In Tamil Nadu, the DMK, which stands for Dynasty Money Swindling and Katta Panchayat and its ally the Congress are corrupt. All of them are trying to save their families and dynasties and themselves from their corruption,» Nadda said addressing a rally here.
