Citizens Election community Refugees country Hope and happiness among Pak Hindu refugees in Delhi as CAA rules notified
Pakistani Hindu refugees residing in Delhi expressed hope and happiness on the implementation of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Monday, saying they are elated that «we will be called Indian citizens finally». Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the Centre announced the implementation of the contentious CAA 2019 for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. Dharamveer Solanki, who is considered the chief of the Pakistani Hindu refugee community in Delhi, told PTI that around 500 from the community will receive citizenship now. «I and my family have been waiting for this for over a decade now. We are extremely happy that finally we will be called Indian citizens now. I am glad I decided to return to my homeland in 2013,» Solanki said.

The federal probe agency alleged that around ₹10.29 crore was used by Alchemist Group—accused in the money laundering case—for making payments to aviation companies on behalf of the TMC during the campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Supreme Court on Monday asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has challenged a Delhi High Court order upholding the summons issued to him as an accused in a criminal defamation case, whether he wanted to give an apology to the complainant in the matter. On February 26, Kejriwal told the apex court that he made a mistake by retweeting an allegedly defamatory video circulated by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee related to the BJP IT Cell. During the hearing on Monday, a bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta was told by the counsel appearing for complainant Vikas Sankrityayan that Kejriwal may issue an apology on public platforms like microblogging platform 'X' or Instagram. «You tell us what you want. We can put it to the other side. We are not going to step into your shoes or the other side's shoes,» the bench told the counsel.

Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Maharashtra government application seeking a stay on the acquittal of former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and others in the Maoist links case, and said the Bombay High Court order clearing them of the charges is «prima facie well-reasoned». A bench of justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, however, admitted the state government's appeal against the March 5 order of the high court. The bench also rejected the oral request of Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Maharashtra government, for early listing of the appeal and said it will come up for hearing in due course of time. «There cannot be any urgency to reverse order acquittal. Had it been the other way around, we would have considered,» the bench told Raju and asked him to file for expeditious hearing at a later stage.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, is expected to inaugurate Vasudev Ghat on Tuesday. The horticulture, walkway, and restoration work at the ghat are almost complete. The main focus now is on clearing the silt so that the river water can reach the steps constructed at the bank, allowing the Aarti to be performed regularly. An MoU has already been signed with an organization that will conduct the Aarti every evening. Vasudev Ghat is a unique project among the ongoing restoration and rejuvenation projects of the Yamuna floodplains. It not only features green lawns, a 3-km cycling track, and a walking area, but also showcases a historic look with captivating artwork. The landscaping at the ghat has been done in the Charbagh style, incorporating elements like baradaris and chhatris inspired by the adjacent Qudsia Bagh garden.
